Super Falcons forward, Esther Okoronkwo, has accused cleaning staff at the Morocco hotel where Nigeria camped ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) of stealing cash from players’ rooms.
Okoronkwo made the allegations in a series of Snapchat posts on Friday, claiming the money went missing while players were away from their rooms and hotel cleaners were inside to tidy up.
Nigeria stayed at a hotel in Casablanca during the final stage of preparations for the tournament before the squad was scheduled to travel to Rabat, where they will play their Group C matches.
“The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited while we weren’t in the room to clean and steal the money,” Okoronkwo wrote in one of the posts.
She also urged teammates and followers to “write bad reviews” about the hotel.

Okoronkwo initially said $500 had been taken from her belongings but later corrected the amount.
“Guys I did my calculations wrong; they actually stole 700, not 500 USD,” she wrote.
She also alleged that several other members of the squad lost money.
According to her posts, a teammate identified as Hali, understood to be Halimatu Ayinde, allegedly lost $100, while Osi, identified as Asisat Oshoala, allegedly lost another $100. Joy, identified as Joy Omewa, was said to have lost £120.
Okoronkwo also alleged that an unspecified amount was taken from another teammate.
The forward said the players confronted hotel staff after discovering the missing money but claimed they were not given a satisfactory explanation.
“We started talking to them, and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful,” she wrote.
Okoronkwo further alleged that front desk staff showed little concern after she reported the matter.
She ended her posts by warning prospective guests about her experience at the hotel and alleging that staff steal from guests.
The allegations have not been independently verified.
The hotel and the Nigeria Football Federation had not immediately responded to the allegations at the time of the report.
The incident comes as the Super Falcons continue preparations for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
Deborah Abiodun and Gift Monday completed Nigeria’s squad at the Marriott hotel camp in Casablanca, giving head coach Justine Madugu a full 25-player squad ahead of the tournament.
Nigeria are the defending champions and have won the WAFCON a record 10 times.
The 2026 tournament also carries added significance, with qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and a reported $2 million first prize at stake.
The Super Falcons are scheduled to play their Group C matches in Rabat as they begin their title defence.
