England captain has endured a troubled week after going on an all-night bender while on international duty
IT’S been a tough week for troubled Wayne Rooney.
The striker is set to be stripped of the England captaincy after pulling an all-night booze-up while on international duty.
And today he risked facing the wrath of Sir Alex Ferguson as his former Manchester United boss turned up for training ahead of tomorrow’s crunch clash with Arsenal.
But the pressure didn’t appear to be getting to Rooney as he led Jose Mourinho’s men through their paces at Carrington.
The 31-year-old laughed and joked around with teammates as The Special One kept a close watch, even though he is expected to miss out against the Gunners.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended after picking up five yellow cards but young Marcus Rashford is set to be deployed through the middle in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at Old Trafford.
United outcasts Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Bastian Schweinsteiger also trained with the first team, although the latter is not expected to be handed a recall as he prepares for a move to the MLS in January.
There’s a chance Paul Pogba could be deployed further forward if Rooney misses out, with the likes of Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera all pushing for a start in midfield.
Meanwhile, Luke Shaw could line up at left-back after working his way back to full fitness although there’ll be no place for Chris Smalling as he bids to beat a broken toe.
