Wenger ready to bury the hatchet with Jose Mourinho after more than a decade of bad blood

ARSENE Wenger is ready to bury the hatchet with managerial enemy Jose Mourinho as the rivals prepare to go head-to-head on Sunday.

The pair are embroiled in a long-running feud that stretches back to 2005 when Mourinho, who was Chelsea boss at the time, labelled the manager a ‘voyeur’.

Then in 2014, Mourinho aimed another swipe at the Frenchman branding him a ‘specialist in failure’.

The pair have found themselves in touchline rows during more then 10 years as rivals

In addition, the high-profile managers have been involved in a number of touchline spats as the bad blood between the two threatened to turn nasty.

The tumultuous relationship is similar to that of Wenger’s with Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, Wenger and Ferguson eventually formed a friendship during the latter’s final years as Manchester United manager.

And Wenger, whose side face United on Sunday, says he is willing to do the same with Mourinho.

When asked whether his relationship with Mourinho could take a similar turn, Wenger replied: ‘I am open always in life for everything, you know, for peace.

‘But what is important when you are a competitor is that you give absolutely everything to win the next game.

My relationship with Ferguson mellowed, yes. We have respect.

‘I think I try to respect everybody and I do not want to make a case of any person. I think it is important that I focus on my own team, the performance of my team and forget all the rest.’
