The Super Falcons’ forward admits her side proved they remain the best on the continental after pipping Cameroon to retain the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Yaounde
Nigeria women forward Asisat Oshoala believes her national side fully regained its reputation as the best in Africa after African Women Cup of Nations final’s 1-0 victory over Cameroon .
In 2015, The Super Falcons stumbled to an early exit at the Fifa Women’s World Cup, won no medal at the All African Games and failed to qualify for the Olympics for the second time.
But Oshoala who won the top scorer award with six goals insists her side’s title triumph in the central African nation would make up for their poor showing in the last 12 months.
“I’m really very excited about this. It is like a historic moment. I’m happy to part of this history for my country,” Oshoala told media.
“It is not easy getting to the top and the most important thing is not all about getting to the top but how you maintain it. It shows we are leading in Africa for now.
“The All Africans Games said a lot about Nigeria. We had the opportunity redeeming our image and showed that we are the still champions in Africa. I think we have to take it one game at a time.
“At the minute, let’s finish our celebration and then we face the World Cup in the next few years.”
The Arsenal Ladies star has now won two African titles in two appearances and scored 10 goals in 10 games played at the continental showpiece.
