Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has introduced several changes for the 2026/27 season, including a new squad-building assistant for beginners, live mini-league updates, an official price change predictor and improvements to the Bonus Points System, while retaining the expanded chip format introduced last season.
The game is now live ahead of the new Premier League campaign, with managers able to make unlimited transfers until the Gameweek 1 deadline on Friday, 21 August at 18:30 BST.
New team-building assistant
One of the biggest additions is an optional squad-building assistant designed for beginners and returning managers.
Available initially on the FPL website, the feature asks users three questions before generating a personalised squad based on their preferences.
Managers can choose whether to include players from their favourite club, decide how much of their budget should be spent on the starting XI or bench, and indicate whether they prefer to invest more in attack or defence.
Experienced managers can skip the process and continue selecting their squads manually.
The “Auto Pick” feature has also been improved to exclude players considered less likely to start matches, based on data from the previous season. Managers who are unhappy with the suggested squad can generate a new one repeatedly or replace individual players while keeping the rest of the team intact.
According to FPL, the feature is intended to provide newcomers with a stronger starting point rather than guarantee high scores.
Live updates during matches
Fantasy managers will now receive real-time updates to overall rankings, mini-league tables, head-to-head contests and FPL Cup ties while matches are in progress.
Projected bonus points will also be displayed from the 20th minute of matches, with estimates changing as games unfold before final bonus points are confirmed.
Official price change predictor
FPL has introduced an official Price Change Predictor that tracks player transfer activity and estimates who is most likely to rise or fall in value during the daily price update.
While the predictions are not guaranteed, the tool is designed to help managers plan transfers more effectively throughout the season.
More squad information
Managers can now switch between different squad views to see additional information, including Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR), player ownership and upcoming opponents.
During the season, player form and projected price movements will also be available within these views.
Career performance comparison
Another new feature allows managers to compare their all-time Fantasy Premier League performance with the global player base.
The website now displays a manager’s career average rank and percentile, offering a broader view of long-term performance across multiple seasons.
Bonus Points System adjusted
The Bonus Points System (BPS) has been modified for the new season.
The changes are intended to reduce overlap with defensive contribution points while improving bonus-point opportunities for goalkeepers, full-backs and attacking players.
Later Gameweek lock
Gameweek scores will now become final at 09:00 UK time on the day after the last fixture of each Gameweek, replacing the previous one-hour turnaround after the final whistle.
The later deadline allows additional time for Opta to review match data before bonus points and defensive contribution points are finalised.
Record player prices
Several high-profile players have received significant price adjustments ahead of the new campaign.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is now the most expensive player in FPL history at £15.5 million.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has risen to £12.0 million, representing one of the biggest price increases in the game.
Arsenal defender Gabriel has also reached £8.0 million, making him one of the most expensive defenders ever listed in Fantasy Premier League.
Position changes
FPL has also reclassified 11 players into new positions for the 2026/27 season, a move that could influence selection strategies and player value.
Position changes are reviewed annually based on how players were deployed during the previous campaign.
What remains unchanged?
Despite the new additions, several key elements remain the same.
Managers will again have two sets of chips across the season, including the Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost, giving a total of eight chips. The first set must be used before the Gameweek 19 deadline and cannot be carried into the second half of the season.
Managers can also continue rolling over up to five free transfers, while defensive contribution points introduced last season remain part of the scoring system.
In addition, the Adobe Express Gameweek Recap feature introduced at the end of last season will continue, allowing managers to generate personalised summaries of their Gameweek performance after scores have been finalised.
