Brighton and Hove Albion have continued their tradition of investing in emerging talent with the signing of Nigerian winger, Zadok Yohanna from Swedish side AIK.
The Premier League club agreed a deal worth £21.5 million for the 18-year-old, who will officially complete the move when the summer transfer window opens on June 15.
The transfer represents another significant milestone in the journey of one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising footballers.
Less than a year after making his senior debut in Sweden, Yohanna has secured a move to one of England’s leading talent-development clubs.

Yohanna now joins a growing list of promising talents entrusted with developing under the club’s long-term project.
The winger arrives after a breakthrough campaign at AIK, where his performances attracted interest from several European clubs.
His pace, dribbling ability and attacking intelligence made him one of the most talked-about young players in the Swedish top flight.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler believes the Nigerian has the qualities to succeed in England, although he expects the teenager to develop gradually.
Sporting Tribune provides what to know about Brighton’s latest Nigerian signing.
Background
Yohanna was born on June 29, 2007, in Bauchi State, where he spent his early years before pursuing a football career.
At about 12 years old, he left home for Kaduna to join the Ikon Allah Football Academy, a move that laid the foundation for his professional career.
The academy has become known for producing young Nigerian talents capable of attracting opportunities abroad.
Rapid rise at AIK
AIK signed Yohanna in June 2025, initially placing him in the club’s under-19 team.
He wasted little time making an impression, scoring four goals in his first three matches at youth level before earning regular opportunities to train with the senior squad.
His competitive debut came in August 2025 against IFK Göteborg, while his first start followed three days later in the Svenska Cupen.
Ahead of the 2026 season, AIK appointed José Rivero as head coach, a change that proved significant for Yohanna’s development. Operating mainly on the right wing in a 4-3-3 system, he established himself as a regular starter.
Breakthrough season
The 2026 campaign marked Yohanna’s breakthrough as he scored his first senior goals in the Swedish Cup against BK Häcken before adding another in the quarter-final against GAIS.
His first Allsvenskan goal arrived against Halmstads BK, where he cut inside from the right before scoring the winner.
He maintained his form throughout the opening months of the season, finishing his time at AIK with five goals and four assists in 18 appearances.
Those performances quickly drew attention from clubs across Europe.
European interest
Yohanna’s rise sparked widespread transfer interest.
Reports linked him with Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Real Madrid before Brighton secured his signature.
The Premier League club moved quickly to complete the transfer, handing the teenager a five-year contract that runs until 2031.
The reported transfer fee also makes the deal one of the biggest outgoing transfers in Swedish football history.
Style of play
Yohanna is a left-footed attacker who primarily operates on the right wing, although he can also play as an attacking midfielder.
His game is built around direct running, close control and the ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations.
AIK’s former Head of Scouting and Recruitment, Fredrik Wisur Hansen, summed up those qualities after bringing him to Sweden.
“He has an impressive skill set, highlighted by his burst of acceleration, close control, exceptional one-on-one ability and a refined left foot.”
A new chapter at Brighton
Brighton view Yohanna as a player for the future, but also one capable of contributing in the attacking third as he adapts to English football.
His move from Bauchi to Sweden and now to the Premier League reflects a rapid rise built on consistent development and opportunity.
At 18, he joins Brighton as one of Nigeria’s latest exports to Europe’s top leagues, with the next stage of his career set to unfold on one of football’s biggest stages.
