The polytechnic town of Ozoro in Delta state will come to life on Saturday as the Delta State Principals Cup football competition for secondary schools sponsored by Zenith Bank comes to an end.
The final encounter between Master Care International School Asaba and Idjerhe Grammar School Jesse promises to be highly entertaining as the winners are sure of representing the state at the next Shell Cup competition.
Master Care defeated Amai Secondary Community School 2-1 in the semifinals while Idjerhe defeated Ogbe Ijaw 2-0 to book a slot in the final slated for the Ultra-Modern Stadium in Ozoro.
The competition which started on March 16 in Asaba had over 1,200 private secondary schools and 446 public government secondary schools as participants. All the secondary schools in the 25 local government areas of Delta state took part in the competition.
Speaking on the final, the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Peter Amangbo, said it has been a successful competition so far.
“I will definitely be at the final the way I started on the opening day,” he said.
“I am happy with the situation report from the organisers from the opening day till the final and I want to use this opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of Zenith Bank to grass-roots development, especially in sporting activities.”
While reacting to the successful hosting of the competition across all the 25 local government areas of the state, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Delta state, Chiedu Ebie, applauded the support of Zenith Bank and the organisers, Hideaplux Limited, Warri.
Ebie said: “We cannot be talking of the final and the success so far without the commitment and support of Zenith Bank and Hideaplux.
“I just want to use this opportunity to call on everyone around the state to turn up and watch these kids display good football artistry on Saturday.”
The CEO of Hideaplux Limited, Warri, Tony Pemu, was not left out as he urged the players of the two finalists to imbibe the spirit of partnership.
Pemu added that the process of discovering talents for the various national teams in country have started with the revival of the Principal Cup.
