Uganda’s coach, Paul Put, has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), stating that they are not intimidated by Nigeria’s Super Eagles and other countries in their group.
Despite being drawn in a tough Group C alongside three-time champions Nigeria, Tunisia, and regional rivals Tanzania, Put believes his team, The Cranes, can compete with the best.
“They (Super Eagles) are a perennial powerhouse. There are threats everywhere from their squad, with top talent and European experience.
“Tunisia are highly organised, technical, tactically astute. They are hard to break down, but we will see.
“For our neighbours, Tanzania, they are a good mix of energy and familiarity, regional derbies are never easy,” Put told CAFonline.
Put, who guided Burkina Faso to the AFCON final in 2013, where they lost 1-0 to Nigeria, acknowledges the Super Eagles’ quality and experience but emphasises that his team will respect their opponents without being intimidated.
“We will respect all of them, but we are not intimidated. We will give a good account of ourselves,” Put told CAFonline.
However, Uganda will open their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tunisia on December 23, and Put confirmed his team’s readiness for the task ahead.
