240 golfers for IGC Captain’s Day

No fewer than 240 golfers from across Nigeria are expected at the two-day golf tournament in honour of the immediate-past Captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Col. Ade Sunmonu (retd).

Speaking at the press conference to herald the tournament, Sunmonu said about 183 golfers have so far shown interest in participating in the two-day event.

He said the tournament scheduled for this weekend September 18-19 is to mark his stewardship as captain of the club in the last one year.

He added that professional, amateur and veteran golfers across the nation would be participating.

According to him, he said “The Captain’s Day would have happened in March but because of COVID-19 pandemic, we had to shift it to a much saver time, and having looked at the environment, we felt we can do it now.

Before the day of the competition many more others are still expected to register and we’ve made provisions for 240 golfers, including professionals like David Owoyemi, Emeka Obi, Lateef Lasisi that are well recognised in Nigeria.

“We are expecting golfers from the 36 states of the federation including the FCT.  What will be experienced here is golf played in its finest level,” he said.

On the safety of everyone as regards to the raging COVID-19, Sumonu said that every precaution is on ground to curtail the spread of the disease.

“The club was initially locked down and dominated to make it habitable for everyone. We have everything required to make everyone safe.

“Right from the entrance, temperature will be checked before proceeding to the handwashing arena to wash hands and use the hand sanitizers.

“Everyone is expected to wear a face mask and maintain social distancing. On the course, there’s social distancing because you don’t move togethers you move in the direction of your ball,”he said.

The tee off for Friday is schedule for 7:00am while the cocktail party holds the same day by 6:00pm.

The tee-off for Saturday will commence from 7 am on Saturday, September 19 and the closing ceremony is billed to take place by 4 pm same day.

Meanwhile, the committee are expected to visit the orphanage home later today so as to donate items to the motherless home.
