3SC launch academy, retain Balogun as GM

As part of plans to make Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), more attractive to prospective sponsors and corporate bodies, the management of the club has launched its football academy.

With this development, 3SC have made away with their feeder’s team with the sole aim of giving many young talented players within the age bracket of U-13, 15 and 17 years opportunities to exhibit their potential and be nurtured to stardom.

The management of 3SC also during the official unveiling of the football academy held at the Indoor sports hall, Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, on Monday apologised to their teeming fans and supporters within and outside the country over the relegation of the team at the recently-ended Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season to the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Speaking at the ceremony, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Abayomi Oke, explained that the main aim of establishing the football academy is to enable the club to attract interests from corporate bodies who are keen on youth development; and to enable 3SC to have their home-grown players who would graduate from the academy to the senior team.

He added that the football academy would afford young kids the opportunity of learning the trade from the tender age and mature to the main team as well as attract interests from other teams.

In his speech at the event, Executive Chairman of 3SC, Mr Gbolagade Busari, expressed optimism that the development would go a long way in reshaping the fortune of the club.

He apologised to the teeming fans and supporters of the club worldwide over the relegation to the NNL with a promise that the team would return to the NPFL within a season, saying all hands are on deck to ensure this is actualised.

Busari reiterated that the government will retain the services of Mr Rasheed Balogun as the General Manager of the club for continuity.

He also announced officially the appointment of Edith Agoye as the head coach of 3SC ahead of the NNL campaign with date for his unveilling to be announced later.
