Chelsea have completed the signing of Italian defender Marco Palestra from Atalanta, with the 21-year-old signing a seven-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
Palestra joins the Premier League club after an impressive 2025-26 season on loan at Cagliari, where he made 37 Serie A appearances, scored one goal and provided four assists. He was also named Serie A Defender of the Season.
The Italy international, who is comfortable playing as a right-back or wing-back, is expected to strengthen Chelsea’s defence under new manager Xabi Alonso. His versatility is considered a good fit for Alonso’s preferred 3-5-2 formation, which relies on attacking wing-backs.
Palestra eager for Premier League challenge
Speaking after completing the move, Palestra expressed his excitement about joining the London club.
“A lot of things convinced me to join Chelsea, one of the best clubs in the world.
