Former France forward, Thierry Henry, has praised Cape Verde’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the team won the hearts of both him and fellow pundit, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, despite their elimination.

Henry made the remarks while speaking on Fox Sports after Cape Verde’s 3-2 extra-time defeat to defending champions Argentina in their Round of 32 clash at the Miami Stadium.

Cape Verde pushed Argentina all the way before falling short after 120 minutes in one of the tournament’s most competitive knockout matches.

Reacting after the game, Henry said the African side’s belief and determination left a lasting impression.

“The story is, was and always will be Cabo Verde. What I witnessed today is just like, when you believe that you can, that’s what can happen,” Henry said.

Although Cape Verde exited the competition, Henry said their display deserved recognition.

“Yes, I know they ended up losing the game. But they won our hearts. I have to say that it’s just magical. Wow,” he said.

Cape Verde’s performance against Argentina earned widespread praise, with the tournament debutants matching the reigning world champions for long periods before eventually bowing out after extra time.
