Achraf Hakimi wins 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award

Moroccan captain, Achraf Hakimi, has been named the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, sealing his first win in the top individual category on the continent.

The Moroccan defender received the award on Wednesday during the CAF Awards ceremony held in Rabat.

Hakimi emerged winner ahead of Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, both strong contenders for the title.

His selection follows a season in which he played a central role for Paris Saint-Germain across domestic and continental competitions.

Hakimi helped PSG secure four trophies in 2025, including Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League, the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions.

He also finished sixth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, the highest placement for an African player that year.

Across all competitions, Hakimi logged more than 3,400 minutes, scoring six goals and providing four assists in Ligue 1.

He added five goals and four assists in the Champions League, contributing both in attack and defence as PSG recorded several clean sheets.

His form earned him places in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season, the Ligue 1 Best XI and the CAF Team of the Year.

At the international level, Hakimi played a key part in Morocco’s qualification push for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He also became the first Moroccan to score in a UEFA Champions League final, achieving the feat during PSG’s 2025 victory.

Hakimi’s performances over the year strengthened his influence for both club and country, securing him the continent’s top honours for 2025.
