Ahmed Sulaiman wins Ibadan Open Golf Championship

A member of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Ahmed Sulaiman, has emerged champion of the maiden Ibadan Open Golf Championship held at the club last weekend.

The four-day tournament attracted golf enthusiasts from across the country. Sulaiman clinched the top spot with a total score of 156 over 36 holes, finishing ahead of Lekan Ogunbameru, who posted 158 gross over the two days.

Speaking after his victory, Sulaiman credited his success to hard work and dedication to the game of golf.

“I’m so excited to have emerged as the champion of the maiden edition of this tournament. I would ascribe my victory to hard work, determination, and commitment to the game.

“This win means a lot to me because it reflects the many hours I’ve put into improving my game, and I also want to appreciate IGC for organising the tournament in order for us to strive.

“This tournament has set a new standard for golf in Ibadan, and I’m proud to be part of its history and look forward to defending this title next year, God willing and continuing to raise the bar for myself and the club.”

At the closing ceremony, the Captain of the Club, Seyi Alaba, expressed delight at the outcome of the championship.

He noted that the event not only showcased Ibadan’s finest golfing talents but also underscored the club’s growing reputation as a hub for golfing excellence.

“We’re happy to report that registration exceeded our expectations, with spots filling up in under 24 hours.

“To allow more golfers to participate, we extended registration by another 24 hours. This is phenomenal within the golfing community,” he said.

Alaba praised the sponsors for their generosity and commitment, acknowledging their role in elevating the tournament’s quality and celebrating the spirit of golf in Ibadan.

He also commended the golfers, particularly those who travelled from other clubs for their impressive skills and sportsmanship.

“Your presence has enriched the tournament, and we are honoured to have shared the course with you.

“Congratulations to all our winners and participants. Your achievements reflect your hard work and dedication,” he said.
