Arsene Wenger: Arsenal’s best is yet to come

ARSENE WENGER has warned his Premier League rivals that Arsenal’s best is yet to come.

The Gunners were on fire as they thrashed West Ham 5-1 on Saturday with a hat-trick from Alexis Sanchez and goals from Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

But despite becoming the league’s top scorers before Sunday’s games kicked off, Wenger reckons ruthless Arsenal will only get better.

Wenger said: “We can do better and there is still room for improvement. Certainly, our percentage of chances converted in this game is not the best.

“But since the start of the season the quality of our finishing compared to our chances is quite good. Much better than last year.

“We miss only 20 per cent of our chances, last year we missed over 100!

“I think recently we had lost a little bit of the quality from our game and we started a little bit with the results. A draw here a draw there.

“A draw against PSG that was not completely convincing, but against West Ham we found the flow again.

“I think we have to concentrate on the quality of our game and try to repeat that week in week out.

“Away from home we have to maintain that quality of performance.”

Arsenal keeper Petr Cech reckons his side gave the perfect response after league leaders Chelsea won at Manchester City earlier in the day.

He said: “It became a kind of must win game for us when Chelsea won and obviously the gap opened to six points. We knew what we had to do and we did it in a very professional way.

“We a lot of opportunities in the first half but it wouldn’t go in. In the second half at 1-0 the keeper made some fantastic saves and you think it could still be a dangerous scoreline.

“I know a lot of people would have been a bit anxious, but we showed the maturity not to panic and we kept going. We thoroughly deserved the goals for our performance.”
