Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool still have the bottle to win the league despite Bournemouth loss

JURGEN KLOPP insists Liverpool still have the bottle to win the Premier League after shooting themselves in the foot at Bournemouth.

Klopp’s men led by two goals twice in the game before on-loan Chelsea defender Nathan Ake stabbed home the winner in the third minute of added time to give the Cherries their first ever victory over Liverpool.

But Klopp claims his current stars still have the fight to end their title drought this season.

Liverpool haven’t won the league since 1990 and Klopp said: “We gave the game away – but Bournemouth was ready to take it.

“It was a nice story, but unfortunately we were on the wrong side.

The shock defeat was Liverpool’s first in 16 matches and keeps them four points behind leaders Chelsea.

“We were 100 per cent before now, now we are 99 per cent,” said Klopp. “But it’s quite simple to go back to 100 per cent..

“We have no attitude or character problem. No one is born a winner, not in the first two or three months, you have to learn it.

“Last year there was a lot of criticism and we managed to change and tried to be much better.

“It’s always clear something like this can happen. You don’t like it, and it still feels bad.

“But when you know about the problems in life, you know these things can happen.”

Sadio Mane and Divock Origi gave Liverpool the half time lead before Callum Wilson pulled one back from the penalty spot after James Milner had tripped Ryan Fraser.

Emre Can appeared to have won it with a thumping strike but a crazy final 14 minutes saw Steve Cook and Fraser draw level.

Chelsea’s Dutch defender Ake then poked in a last gasp winner after Liverpool keeper Loris Karius dropped Cook’s drive.

But Klopp refused to blame his mistake-prone shot-stopper, saying: “The last goal was not easy for a goalkeeper. It says nothing about him as a goalkeeper. It happens. we go on.”

Eddie Howe celebrated his 300th game in the Bournemouth dug-out last week, but admitted he is far more likely to remember his 301st, saying: “I don’t think I’ll ever forget this one.

“At half-time today we were in real trouble. Liverpool were excellent. We weren’t very good. So that makes the comeback all the more impressive.”
