Transport workers in Asaba on Wednesday lamented roads closure due to the ongoing Senior African Athletics championships and called for the relocation of the newly completed Stephen Keshi Stadium.
The transporters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the roads closure had brought difficulties for transporters in the town.
Mr Martins Okafor, a transporter said that the closure was a burden to him becuase Asaba was a small town that Stephen Keshi Stadium ought not to be there.
He said that Nnebisi road was the only major state road in the town and the closure was a big minus for businesses.
Okafor said that he had to merry go round the town in order to get to his destination.
He said that at the end of the trip, time and resources were wasted because commuters would not pay extra money for the service.
Also, Mr Francis Olabisi corroborated Okafor’s views, saying that the town was small for an evnt of that magnitude.
Olabisi said that there were many towns and villages in Delta with big land mass that could house the stadium without hitch.
He said that the burden that he was going through due to the competition was a loss when viewed aginst what he used to make before as income from his transportation business.

He noted that commuters were not interested in boarding their tricycle for short distances rather they trekked.
Okafor lamented that the roads closure was a sad news to him instead of blessings.
Another transporter, Mr Chukwudi Odega, said that the government took the decision without putting the masses into consideration.
Odega said that it was the same government that pushed him into transportation business when his employment terminted.
He, however, appealed to the government to always put the masses into consideration before coming up with policies tht border on life and bisiness.
