Brazil international Danilo ends five-year journey at Juventus

Brazilian footballer, Danilo exited Juventus on Monday after both the player and the Serie A side announced a mutually agreed termination of his contract.

“Danilo Luiz da Silva and Juventus have ended their association after five and a half years together, following an agreement to terminate the player’s contract,” Juventus disclosed in a statement.

The 33-year-old departs the Turin club boasting an impressive resume that includes a Serie A championship, two Coppa Italia victories, and one Supercoppa Italiana title, all earned over the course of 213 appearances.

Reports from Italian media indicate that Danilo, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season, is on the verge of returning to his home country, Brazil, with a two-year contract reportedly lined up with Flamengo.

“I knew this moment would eventually arrive, but it’s never easy to say goodbye,” Danilo shared in an emotional message on Instagram.

The defender’s departure comes after he fell out of favour under the management of coach Thiago Motta, who took over in the summer. Motta also appointed Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli as the new captain, replacing Danilo.

Juventus currently occupies fifth place in the Serie A standings, trailing a Champions League qualification spot by just two points. They are set to clash with Benfica in Europe’s top-tier club competition on Wednesday.
