Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has explained that the decision to replace Julian Nagelsmann with Thomas Tuchel as head coach was made due to the team’s declining performance and attractiveness since the World Cup.
Despite Bayern’s impressive performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Nagelsmann was let go due to a recent dip in domestic form.
Bayern had initially hoped to work with Nagelsmann on a long-term basis, but the club’s executives concluded that the squad’s quality had not been consistently demonstrated on the field.
The team’s fluctuating performance has raised doubts about their goals for this season and beyond, leading to the decision to replace Nagelsmann.
Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic expressed regret about the decision, acknowledging that it was a difficult one.
He thanked Nagelsmann for his contributions to the club and wished him well for the future.
Bayern has since appointed former Dortmund, PSG, and Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel on a contract until 2025.
