Champions League: Kante, Barkley set to miss Ajax clash

N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley are set to miss Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Ajax on Wednesday night after being absent from training on Tuesday morning.

Barkley limped off just before half-time in Saturday’s win over Newcastle United with an ankle issue, while Kante has not recovered from a groin injury sustained on international duty.

Andreas Christensen, who Lampard expects to be ruled out for the next couple of weeks, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were also absent.

There was, however, some positive news for Frank Lampard’s team this morning as both left-back Emerson Palmieri and centre-back Antonio Rudiger did train, and the duo will hope to feature in the squad to face the Dutch.

Chelsea face Group H rivals Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Wednesday’s early kick-off and knows victory will draw them level on points with the group leaders.
