Blues hit with a £100,000 fine to add to their misery after being threatened with points deduction
MANCHESTER CITY and Chelsea have both been fined for failing to control their players.
An Independent Regulatory Commission hearing ruled the Blues must pay £100,000 while City have been charged £35,000.
It followed an incident in the 95th minute of their Premier League clash at the Etihad on Saturday 3 December.
Sergio Aguero lunged in on David Luiz which sparked a mass brawl on the pitch.
Aguero, 28, and City midfielder Fernandinho, 31, were both sent off and handed four and three-game bans respectively.
Chelsea had been warned by the FA they could face a points deduction after they were fined £375k for a scrap with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge last season.
Antonio Conte described the threat as a “joke”.
He said: “I don’t understand this. We are trying to improve.
“For this reason, I reply: ‘You must be joking’. You must understand which team is at fault.
“For me, if you are involved in a situation and the fault is not your one, you must pay? Why?
“Manchester City and Chelsea, at the end of the game, my players tried to keep their calm.
“We had a bad record in the past but now we are different. I think that, in every game, you fight a lot during 90 minutes and, when the referee whistles at the end, it’s important to finish.
“I don’t know what happened in the past. I know what happened in the present.
“For this reason, I ask if you are joking or not.”
Chelsea won the game 3-1 after going behind through Gary Cahill’s own goal.
