REAL MADRID superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that Arsenal tried to sign him before he joined Manchester United.
The 31-year-old ace was snapped up from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 after he impressed against United in a pre-season friendly.
Following his move to Old Trafford, the attacker established himself as a world great.
After six years in the Premier League he joined Real Madrid for £80m.
But things could have panned out differently if Arsene Wenger had secured his signature.
“It was not planned that United would be my team,” Ronaldo told Marca.
“Other clubs like Arsenal, Valencia, and Inter had enquired about me but we played against Manchester United and the rest is history.”
Ronaldo penned a new five-year deal with the Galacticos earlier this week.
The Portuguese ace has scored more than 370 goals for Real Madrid and will be 36 when his latest contract expires.
He helped inspire his homeland to victory at Euro 2016 this summer and has won the Ballon d’Or three times.
