Croatia not afraid of Eagles ―Modric

Croatia’s captain, Luka Modric, says his side will not be afraid of the Super Eagles at the Russia 2018 World Cup, though Nigeria is the giant of Africa.

Nigeria and Croatia are in Group D of the World Cup with Argentina and Iceland completing the roster.

While Modric believes Argentina are the group favourites in view of what they had done at the World Cup level, winning two championships in 1978 1nd 1986, the Real Madrid midfielder told Marca that Croatia could get past Nigeria and Iceland.

”Everybody talks about Argentina as favourites, I have no issue with that. Iceland we know very well but Nigeria are a very, very big country and so have a big pool of talents to pick from. They are everywhere in the Leagues of Europe but we have a team with a lot of talent,” he said of Croatia and their chances.

“For a country so small it is good to have so many sportspeople with such talent across lots of sports.

“It is an honour to be the captain of my country.”
