Ejidike tasks Rangers to re-create continental fame

October 19, 2016

NIGERIA’S Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike has tasked Enugu Rangers to re-create the fame the Flying Antelopes were known for in African club championships as they file out to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next year.

Ejidike, who praised the resilience and consistency of the club in the just-ended Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season, said the Flying Antelopes’ emergence as the Nigerian league champions was a deserved reward for hard work and tenacity of purpose.

Rangers did not leave any one in doubt about their determination to win the title as they maintained good results, both at home and on the road.

Winning the league title after 32 years without a trophy is no mean achievement. It tells a lot about the historic characteristic of the Flying Antelopes,” he said.

Ejidike, who is also the president of the Nigeria Karate Federation, advised Rangers to begin their preparation for the CAF Champions League in earnest as the continental championship demands a good planning.

Despite the availability of quality players in the Nigerian league, clubs that represent the country in continental competitions find it difficult to make the desired impact. The major reason is poor planning which includes lack of proper funding and administration.

Enugu Rangers and Rivers United who are our flagbearers in the CAF Champion League should be abreast of the experiences of other clubs that had featured in the championship.”
