SHOOTING Stars Sports Club of Ibadan defender Izu Joseph tragically lost his life after he was shot while holidaying in his village, Okaki, Rivers State, at the weekend.
Today, we recall Izu’s last chat with Tribunesport moments after the 2015-2016 football league season ended. It is, perhaps, his last interview with any newspaper before his death.
“I am happy that Shooting Stars ended this season on a happy note. Looking back, it has been a long season. A season full of uncertainties and worries. The results did not come as we expected, otherwise we should have been talking of a continental ticket.
There have been drawbacks caused by lack of funds, travelling hassles and inconsistent form. We are grateful we shall be campaigning here at te top level of the Nigerian league because next season we will try and get better.
“Personally, I still keep alive the hope of playing in Europe which I know will one day materialise but before then, I want to keep working hard with the Shooting Stars and get them back on the top scene they belong.’’
