It was an interesting situation on Friday at the Media Centre of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja as the race for the chairmanship and treasurer positions ended in tie.
Three candidates contested for the position of the chairman. They are Tolu Oguntimehin, Kelechi Onwudiwe and Foluso Alade. While Alade polled 8 votes out of 136 by the delegates, Oguntimehin and Onwudiwe got 64 votes apiece.
The duo of Tribunesports’ Taofeek Lawal and Jane Nweze who were vying for the post of treasurer got 68 votes each.
Earlier, there was a call for voice affirmation from the chairman of the FCT SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO), Patrick Ngwogwu to affirm the candidature of the unopposed candidates, Niyi Busari as Financial Secretary, Samuel Ahmadu as Secretary and Victor Okoye as the vice chairman.
However, Friday Joshua emerged as the newly elected assistant secretary as he polled 104 votes to defeat Nonso Arinzechukwu who got 32 votes. Joan Iwuchukwu was elected as welfare officer. She got 88 votes to beat Busayo Olowookere who garnered 48 votes.
Speaking at the end of the election, SWAN national president, Benjamin Isaiah, commended SWANECO for a job well done. He said new election for the posts of the chairman and the treasurer will hold in the next two weeks as SWANECO has got another mandate to oversee the another election.
