The President, World football governing body (FIFA) Giani Infantino says the body will not allow any form of government interference in the running of its federations across the globe.
The FIFA boss made this disclosure Tuesday the post FIFA Executive Football Summits held at the Eko hotel and Suites saying in as much as the body will not want to sanction any country found wanting but will do all it could to ensure that such does not happen.
He said, “We cannot accept any government interference with our member federation. We don’t want a situation whereby sport minister of a country will just wake up one day and kick out football federation president. We are not going to allow this to happen because we in FIFA does not want to sanction any country, ” he said.
Infantino who commended the NFF board for the hosting of the summits and also other activities to improve the game in the country continued, “All we are expecting is total cooperation between the federation and government agents so as to help in the development of the game and bring about unity so that the game will not suffer. Honestly speaking we don’t like suspending any federation and I am sure there will be no need for such in any of our federations,” he said.
The NFF President Amaju Pinnick in his remarks expressed satisfaction with the FIFA team on ground for the summit as well as his team from the NFF for putting up such a unique programme and hinted that the summit will help in the development of the game.
