Akwa United head coach Abdul Maikaba believes his team’s resolve to bounce back in the second leg of their CAF Confederations Cup against the Hawks FC of Gambia will be down to how they utilise the 90 minutes at their disposal on Wednesday.
After going down 2-1 to the Gambian in the first leg of the competition’s preliminary round on home turf in Uyo, Akwa United’s only hope of progressing to the next round of the competition is a win with at least two goals cushion.
Despite losing the first leg at home, Maikaba said his team will not be under any pressure when they go into the return leg of the match on Wednesday.
“I have been in football for many years and in all those years, I have worked with different sets of players under different management. But there is something special about Akwa United. Everyone is fully committed and dedicated towards the success of the team at all times.”
“We were surprised with the result in Uyo, but, we know that no two matches are the same. The game will be decided after the second leg on Wednesday, so the tie is still alive and we have 90 minutes to decide our fate.”
Nigerian champions Plateau United also lead 3-0 from their first leg, but must now travel to trouble Eding Sport in Cameroon for what is sure to be a difficult away-day.
