Aged 15 years, Dowman became the youngest player to ever be fielded in the UEFA Champions League history, breaking a record set by Youssoufa Moukoko, who appeared first time in the European competition at just 16 years.

Arsenal’s academy has long been known for nurturing stars, but Max Dowman’s debut was something else. At just 15 years and 308 days, the English midfielder became the youngest player ever to feature in a Champions League match when he came on against Slavia Prague in 2025.
Calm, confident, and technically assured, Dowman showed flashes of composure that belied his age. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta described him as “a player beyond his years,” while fans immediately began drawing comparisons with a young Cesc Fàbregas.
Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund) — 16 years, 18 days

When Youssoufa Moukoko stepped onto the pitch in Russia for Borussia Dortmund, he was barely old enough to drive. But the young German-Cameroonian forward had already been smashing youth records — including scoring over 100 goals in Dortmund’s U17 and U19 ranks.
At 16 years and 18 days, he became the youngest player in Champions League history at the time. Within weeks, he was also the youngest scorer in Bundesliga history.
Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) — 16 years, 68 days

Born in 2007, the Spanish forward, Lamine Yamal made his Champions League debut at 16 years and 68 days, and by then he was already a regular starter for Barcelona and Spain.
Against Royal Antwerp, Yamal’s trickery, poise, and passing drew gasps even from the opposition. His rise continued into Euro 2024, where he became the youngest player ever to score in the European Championship at just 16.
Célestine Babayaro (Anderlecht) — 16 years, 86 days

Long before Nigeria’s Super Eagles became a regular fixture in European football, a teenage Célestine Babayaro carried the country’s flag onto the continent’s biggest stage.
At just 16 years and 86 days, the left-back made his Champions League debut for Belgian giants Anderlecht — becoming the youngest player ever at the time. He was later sent off in that very match, a record that still stands as the youngest red card recipient in the competition’s history.
Babayaro would go on to shine for Chelsea and represent Nigeria at multiple AFCONs and the 1996 Olympics, where he helped the Dream Team win gold.
Rayan Cherki (Lyon) — 16 years, 102 days

Rayan Cherki has long been viewed as one of France’s brightest attacking talents. When he stepped onto the pitch for Lyon at 16 years and 102 days, he became the youngest Frenchman ever to appear in the Champions League.
Known for his close control and creative flair, Cherki’s maturity impressed fans and pundits alike. He has since developed into a key player in Lyon’s attack and continues to be tipped for stardom with the French national team.
