Golfers set for Tiger Open 2019

No fewer than 300 golfers are expected to participate at the 24th Tiger Amateur Open Golf Championship which tees off next weekend at Tiger Golf Club (TGC), Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ibadan.

Tiger Open, which is the biggest amateur golf tournament in Nigeria would see a huge number of golfers competing for prizes in various categories.

Captain of TGC, Alfred Bolanle Amubioya said this year’s edition will be different as invited professionals would feature in the tourney for the first time.

He further said that participants will be vying for prizes in over 15 categories.

According to him some of the clubs expected to participate in the two-day tourney include, are Ikeja Golf Club, Ikoyi Golf Club, Abeokuta Golf Club, Sagamu Golf Club, MicCom and Country Golf Club, Ada, Tiger Golf Club, Ogbomoso Golf Club and Ekiti Golf Club, Kaduna Golf Club, Jaji Golf Club, Ibom Golf Club, Otukpo Golf Club, IBB Country Golf Club.

He said golf enthusiasts all over the country are always looking forward to the Tiger Open which is considered as the climax of all golf events in the  Nigerian golf calendar.

“This year’s edition will be different from the number of participants expected and prizes to be won. This year will be the 10th edition we are playing the Tiger Open on our course (Tiger Golf Club) having played the first 15th edition at Ibadan Golf Club (IGC).

“We are expecting no fewer than 300 participants and guests to the city of Ibadan to take part in the tournament,” Amubioya said.

Also, Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the competition, Col. MM Adamu said logistics have been put in place towards ensuring a hitch-free tournament.

The cocktail is scheduled for Friday, December 13, while tee-off will commence from 7 am on Saturday, December 14. The closing ceremony is billed to take place on Sunday, December 15 at 4 pm.
