Hosec Foundation organises basketball training for girls

A non-governmental organisation, Hosec Foundation, at the weekend organised a basketball training for girls in commemoration of the International Day of Girl Child.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, Executive Director, Hosec Foundation, Ibukunoluwa Otesile, said that the programme was meant to encourage more participation of girl child in basketball and as well showcase the girls to the world.

She stated that beneficiaries of the who were divided into four teams were drawn across states will be monitored and attached to trainers for a couple of months to know the rudiments of the game.

Otesile disclosed that as part of activities to celebrate the International Day of Girl Child, skill empowerment programme tagged “skill of a girl child initiative” was organised for 600 girls in some states including Oyo, Lagos, Osun, Kaduna as well as FCT Abuja.

She said girls were also trained on waste recycling, renewable energy, IT appreciation and web design.

“We are here today to climax the international day of the girl child commemoration, though October 11 has been set aside by the international community to create and heighten our awareness.

“This Foundation is working to ensure that that girls are allowed to live a safe and healthy life, attain their potential and ensure that girls are allowed to thrive in their chosen fields,” Otesile said.

Also speaking at the event, Chairman, Hosec Foundation’s advisory board, Jide Adesina urged well-meaning Nigerians to give teenagers moral support to explore opportunities around them.

He stated that: “a lot of talented youths are out there but need people to mentor and and give them support to enable them to excel in their areas of discipline.”

Adesina noted that the achievement of 100m hurdles world champion, Tobi Amusan, was made possible because of the moral support she also received from some people.
