The Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) on Friday inducted over 100 new members as part of efforts to strengthen the club and further enhance its standards.
Speaking at the induction ceremony held at the club’s premises in Onireke GRA, Ibadan, the Captain of the Club, Mr. Seyi Alaba, said the newly admitted members were carefully selected based on character, integrity and social standing.
The event was attended by former captains, past lady captains and other senior members of the club.
Alaba described golf as a game of precision, patience and integrity, noting that it has a unique way of bringing people together.
“As you join our ranks today, you are not just becoming members of Ibadan Golf Club; you are joining a community that values respect, honesty, integrity and camaraderie above all else,” he said.
According to him, golf goes beyond scores and competition.
“In golf, we often say that the game is not just about the score, but about the journey. It is about the friendships forged on the fairways, the lessons learned in the bunkers, and the respect earned on the greens,” Alaba added.
He urged the new members to be worthy ambassadors of the club by actively participating in its activities.
“As you take your place among us, I encourage you to be active, be involved and be supportive. Join us in our tournaments, social events and community outreach programmes. Let us work together to make our club stronger, our community better and our game more enjoyable,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Membership Committee, Barrister Titilola Sodo, congratulated the new members and the club, noting that the inductees include accomplished professionals and business leaders who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields.
He commended members of the Membership Committee for their commitment, time and resources which ensured the successful completion of the exercise.
In their separate remarks, the Coordinator of the new inductees, Bode Opadokun, alongside her assistant, Ayobami Adebayo, thanked the newly inducted members for their cooperation and pledged, on their behalf, to uphold the values of the club and serve as good ambassadors of the Ibadan Golf Club.
