IBB Golf Club: Members commend Wike, BOT on club reopening

Members of the IBB International Golf and Country Club (IBB-IGCC), Abuja have commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike and the Board of Trustees (BoT) led by Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem for their efforts to reopen the club.

The club, which was temporarily closed for renovation in order to bring the facilities up to international standards, saw members express happiness to resume activities and social events, saying the renovation would enhance their overall experience.

President of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), President and BoT member of the club, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, thanked the FCT minister for listening to members to reopen the club.

“Mr Project is now Mr Golf Legend. A man who can come and save IBB Golf Club is no less than a golf legend of our time,” Runsewe said.

The NGF president also appreciated the members who came out in their numbers to sign the petition for the reopening of the club, saying their efforts are beginning to yield positive and needed results.

Runsewe, however, assured that the club will implement strict security checks and member profiling to maintain discipline and prestige when reopened, while adding that the issue of the health and well-being of the members, the maintenance of the course and youth development are top on the agenda of the new BOT.

During the visit, Wike assured that the clubhouse will be renovated under an emergency intervention with focusing on areas where golfers socialise and relax.

The minister also promised that other sections of the club would be renovated and upgraded in phases. He stated that Julius Berger, the original designers of the club’s layout in 1991, would handle the renovation process.
