The newly acquired Pride of Rivers’ midfielder has praised his new team mates for lifting the Super Four crown.
Rivers United midfielder, Esosa Igbinoba has expressed happiness at the Pride of Rivers’ NPFL Super Four victory which came just a month after his loss in the final of the 2016 NFF Federation Cup to FC IFeanyiubah in Lagos.
Igbinoba and Nasarawa United were beaten on penalties by the Anambra Warriors at the Teslim Balogun Stadium after they have had a roller coaster performances enroute to the final where they had defeated the defending champions, Akwa United and four time winners, Enyimba in the quarter final and semi final stages.
The former Solid Miners’ midfielder said he wept uncontrollably because he and team mates deserved to be crowned the Federation Cup champions having played the better game against the Nnewi side and also had promising chances during the match that they ought to have utilized to seal the game at normal time.
Igbinoba told Goal: “This win in the Super Four is a consolation for my loss in the final of the Federation Cup to Ifeanyiubah. We were prepared for them and also played very well but we lost on penalties. It was a trying period for me and I was dejected for days.
“When we got to the Super Four and lost to Enugu Rangers 2-0 we thought all hopes have been lost but God proved us wrong and we still did enough to be crowned the champions. I was extremely happy after the result of Enugu Rangers and Ifeanyiubah was known we all celebrated the feat as if we have won the World Cup.”
