Ighalo slams critics of Osimhen’s transfer saga

Ex-Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has lamented the criticisms surrounding the failed transfer of his compatriot, Victor Osimhen, from Italian club Napoli.

Osimhen, 25, has been entangled in a complex transfer saga following his unsuccessful moves to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and English side Chelsea.

Ighalo, reacting to the issue on Sunday via his X handle, tweeting as #ighalojude, stated that Osimhen was in pain after they spoke.

He wrote, “No human being is perfect, and we have all made mistakes in life, but seeing comments about this young man from his country’s people makes me really sad, without even knowing what happened.

“I spoke to him, and I could feel the pain in his voice. The way he’s been treated, this young man plays with his heart and passion for his country.

“Hmmm, it’s well. He will definitely come back stronger. We learn every day in life.”

On Thursday, fans and friends of the current African Footballer of the Year expressed differing opinions regarding his next career move amidst the transfer speculations.

Osimhen enjoyed a successful 2023/2024 football season, playing a pivotal role in securing Napoli’s first Scudetto in four decades.

Recently, new coach Antonio Conte handed Osimhen’s iconic number 9 shirt to new signing Romelu Lukaku, a move that signifies the coach’s preference for the newly-signed Belgian striker in the new season.
