‘I’m already the best’: Cristiano Ronaldo dismisses 1000-goal talk

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed the talk that he was fixated on scoring and hitting the 1,000-goal milestone, saying he’s already the best football in history and doesn’t consider hitting the terrible number should be as topical as his values.

The Al Nassr forward whose extraordinary career continues to captivate the football world, said he remains unfazed by the challenge despite fans and analysts eagerly counting down to a potential 1,000-goal milestone.

Ronaldo, who now has 923 career goals following Al Nassr’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Al Wasl in the AFC Champions League group stage, declared that his legacy is not defined by numbers.

Ronaldo has built an unmatched reputation since his professional debut with Sporting CP in 2002, breaking records during illustrious spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. Now leading the charge for Al Nassr, he remains one of the most dominant figures in football.

Despite standing just 77 goals away from the elusive four-digit landmark, Ronaldo is growing weary of the conversation surrounding it.

In an interview with Edu Aguirre on El Chiringuito de Jugones, he shrugged off the significance of reaching 1,000 goals, stating, “If I could achieve it, it would be great. But I’m not obsessed with it. It’s getting a bit annoying to talk about.”

He further emphasized that his place in football history is already secure, regardless of whether he reaches the milestone. “I don’t like that people count how many goals I have left to reach 1,000. I am the best in history regardless of whether I reach 1,000 goals or not,” Ronaldo declared, underlining the confidence that has defined his illustrious career.

At 39, Ronaldo continues to perform at an elite level. This season, he has already netted 23 goals across various competitions, proving that age is merely a statistic. Last season, he set a new Saudi Pro League record with 35 goals, further cementing his dominance.

With 50 goals so far this season, Ronaldo remains among the world’s top scorers. As he approaches his 40th birthday on February 4, his goal tally will only serve as another testament to his relentless pursuit of excellence. Having already scored 460 goals before turning 30, Ronaldo’s place among football’s greatest is indisputable, with or without 1,000 goals.
