I’m happy to reject a move to Chelsea ―Gerrard

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard insists he has no regrets over his decision to reject a move to Chelsea.

Gerrard almost moved to Chelsea twice during his 18-year playing career, first turning down a £20m move to Stamford Bridge in 2004.

The midfielder stated then that “for the first time in my career I’ve thought about the possibility of moving on”.

He was tempted once more 12 months later, with Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry publicly stating that the club were powerless to stop him leaving.

But after that U-turn Gerrard stayed with Liverpool until his eventual departure in 2015, and has no doubt that it was the “right” decision.

“The most important thing is the final decision was the right one,” he told The Guardian.

“Nine out of 10 people might argue I would have made more money, won more trophies, blah, blah. But them people are not me. They’re not in my city and they don’t have that connection with my club.

“That’s why I’m the one in 10.”

Gerrard once revealed that Jose Mourinho tried to sign him four times in total.
