Alex Iwobi
Arsenal fans led by former Gunners’ defender Martin Keown Thursday night expressed dismay by the manner in which Nigeria international Alex Iwobi missed a goal-scoring chance in the team’s Europa League quarterfinals second leg clash against CSKA Moscow.
The London side advanced to the tournament’s semifinals and will now eagerly await Friday’s draw with either Atletico Madrid, Salzburg or Marseille their next opponents after all teams went through.
However, Iwobi came in for some harsh criticisms from some club faithful despite the 6-3 aggregate win.
Iwobi was put through on goal by Mesut Ozil but he sliced wide his effort which necessitated a backlash on social media.
“I don’t want to pick on Iwobi but he had fear in his eyes,” former Gunners defender Martin Keown who earlier tasked Iwobi to improve his club performances told BT Sport after the game.
“You’ve got to love those moments,” Keown added.
Iwobi has appeared in six Europa League matches since debuting in the competition against FC Köln, logging 334 minutes in total.
