Jose Mourinho awaits charge after sending-off at St. Mary’s

Manchester United’s Portuguese manager was sent to the stands by referee Craig Pawson for venturing onto the pitch in the final minutes of his team’s 1-0 win at Southampton.

Mourinho was left perplexed when he was given his marching orders in the closing moments of United’s win at St. Mary’s. Fourth official Mike Jones pulled him back after he stepped out of his technical area onto the edge of the pitch.

When the play finally stopped, referee Craig Pawson dismissed the United boss, who shook hands with members of the Southampton staff before disappearing into the tunnel.

‘I don’t know. I don’t know. Craig [Pawson] told me to leave, and I left’, Mourinho said after the incident.

The Manchester United coach, who was sanctioned twice last season, now has to wait for Pawson’s report to land with the FA and find out if he has filed an extraordinary incident report.

The report could then lead to a charge, a warning, a reminder of responsibilities, or no action, depending on how serious the incident, which appeared to be a mere display of passion in the closing stages, is deemed by the FA.
