Jürgen Klopp has returned to football management after being appointed head coach of the German national team on a contract that will run until July 2030.
The appointment as Germany head coach was confirmed on Friday, ending speculation over the former Liverpool manager’s next move after his departure from club football.
Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, announced the development on his X account, writing: “Official: Jurgen Klopp is back! He’s the new German national team head coach. Done, confirmed until July 2030.”
Klopp takes charge of Germany following the departure of Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down after the country’s surprise elimination in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 59-year-old begins his first major role in international football as Germany head coach after building one of the most successful managerial careers in club football.
Klopp earned global recognition during his nine-year spell at Liverpool, where he guided the club to the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and League Cup titles.
Before his move to England, he transformed Borussia Dortmund into one of Europe’s leading clubs, winning consecutive Bundesliga titles and reaching the UEFA Champions League final. He also enjoyed an earlier coaching spell with Mainz.
Widely regarded as one of football’s leading coaches, Klopp is known for his high-intensity style of play, strong leadership and ability to develop young players.
His immediate task will be rebuilding Germany after a disappointing World Cup campaign and preparing the four-time world champions for upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures and qualification for future major tournaments.
Klopp has also stated that leading Germany represents the pinnacle of his coaching career and that he intends to devote himself fully to restoring the national team’s standing among the world’s elite.
