FIFA has recognised the African players who delivered the most impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following the continent’s record participation with 10 national teams at the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Africa enjoyed its strongest representation in World Cup history after CAF secured 10 qualification slots for the expanded 48-team competition. Several players emerged among the tournament’s standout performers, helping African teams reach new milestones on the global stage.
Among those recognised are Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, Côte d’Ivoire winger Yan Diomande, Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, Senegal forward Ismaila Sarr and DR Congo striker Yoane Wissa.

FIFA noted that Africa’s representatives contributed significantly to the 104-match tournament, producing memorable individual displays and several historic achievements.
Vozinha (Cape Verde)
Cape Verde captain and goalkeeper Vozinha became one of the biggest revelations of the tournament after producing a series of outstanding saves during his country’s historic World Cup debut against eventual champions Spain.
The 40-year-old followed that display with impressive performances against Uruguay and Argentina, earning widespread praise for his consistency throughout the competition.
FIFA described his performances as instrumental in introducing Cabo Verde to the global football audience.
Yan Diomande (Côte d’Ivoire)
Nineteen-year-old Yan Diomande established himself as one of the tournament’s breakout stars after helping Côte d’Ivoire reach the knockout stage for the first time in their World Cup history.
The RB Leipzig winger impressed with his pace, close control and attacking creativity, troubling defenders throughout the group stage.
Amad Diallo (Côte d’Ivoire)
Amad Diallo also featured prominently among Africa’s best performers.
The forward scored Côte d’Ivoire’s opening goal against Ecuador before adding another strike against Norway, providing attacking quality despite the Elephants’ eventual elimination before the Round of 16.
FIFA also acknowledged the performances of Christ Inao Oulai, captain Franck Kessie and Nicolas Pepe during Côte d’Ivoire’s campaign.
Azzedine Ounahi (Morocco)
Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi continued the impressive World Cup form he first displayed at Qatar 2022.
He scored twice in Morocco’s Round of 16 victory over Canada, helping the Atlas Lions reach the quarter-finals for a second consecutive World Cup and further cementing the country’s position among Africa’s leading football nations.
Ismael Saibari (Morocco)
Bayern Munich midfielder Ismael Saibari became the first African player to score in each of his country’s three group-stage matches at a World Cup.
His early goal against Scotland, scored after just 71 seconds, ranked among the fastest goals of the tournament.
FIFA also highlighted 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi for his composed performances throughout Morocco’s campaign.
Ismaila Sarr (Senegal)
Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr finished as Africa’s leading scorer at the tournament after scoring four goals in four matches.
Although Senegal exited in the Round of 32, Sarr’s direct running and finishing made him one of the continent’s most effective attacking players.
Pape Gueye (Senegal)
Midfielder Pape Gueye also earned recognition after dominating Senegal’s midfield throughout the tournament.
His two-goal performance against Iraq earned him FIFA’s Superior Player of the Match award and underlined his growing influence for the Lions of Teranga.
Emam Ashour (Egypt)
Egypt midfielder Emam Ashour impressed with goals against Belgium and Australia, emerging as one of the Pharaohs’ most influential performers.
FIFA also praised goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir, who delivered several important saves during Egypt’s campaign, including stopping a Lionel Messi penalty in the Round of 16.
Yoane Wissa (DR Congo)
Returning from a lengthy injury lay-off before the tournament, Yoane Wissa rediscovered top form for DR Congo.
The Newcastle United forward scored three goals, including a decisive brace against Uzbekistan, becoming his country’s all-time leading World Cup scorer and helping the Leopards reach the knockout rounds for the first time.
Ibrahim Maza (Algeria)
Although Algeria failed to progress beyond the group stage, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Ibrahim Maza stood out with his technical quality.
The 20-year-old completed 14 successful dribbles during the tournament, including 12 in the group stage, making him one of the competition’s most effective ball carriers.
