Lack of fund hampers Niger at Ramat Cup

Niger state male team continues to struggle at the ongoing Muritala Ramat Mohammed Football Tournament for U-16 boys and U-18 girls in Kano.

The state team have had a challenging stay in Kano due to lack of funds to take care of feeding, transports and other medical care.

The coach of the team, Lydia Kadiri, who happens to be the only female coach in the competition ‎said “the little we have, we have used it for feeding and transport, we don’t even know how to go back home because I have no money with me again.”

She, however, attributed the shabby performance of the team to lack of funds as she called on the State Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria‎ (YSFON) to come to her aid.

The Niger state team have so far played two games with a loss and a draw against Kaduna and Nasarawa respectively. The team faced Adamawa on Tuesday afternoon to salvage the image of the state.

Reacting to the situation in Kano, the Niger State YSFON Secretary, Alhaji  Bala Adamu Muhammed who spoke with Tribunesport from Minna explained that the state was not responsible for the welfare of the team.

“It’s not the state’s duty to sponsor the team. The slot was given to a capable team who has the fund. It is not the first time we are doing this.

Alhaji‎ Muhammed explained that teams were selected to play qualifiers within the state  and the best teams were told the conditions which the team in Kano accepted to go.

The competition which started ‎on February 12 will end on Thursday.
