Interim manager Frank Lampard has revealed why midfielder N’golo Kante was absent as Chelsea lost 1-0 to Wolves on Saturday.
Kante, who had only just returned from a groin injury that had kept him out of action since the second week of the season, was expected to retain his place in the starting line-up under Lampard’s stewardship.
However, the former Chelsea midfielder has revealed that Kante’s omission from the matchday squad was merely a precautionary measure, as the Blues seek to manage their talismanic midfielder through his return to full fitness.

Lampard stated that he was well aware of the management strategies that had been employed during his previous stint at the club and was confident that Kante would be fully fit for their upcoming Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
Chelsea’s domestic season may be effectively over, but the focus has now shifted to their European campaign, with the Blues set to travel to the Spanish capital for the first leg of their quarter-final tie against the reigning champions.
Lampard’s decision to rest Kante for the Wolves game is a clear indication that he is prioritizing the midfielder’s fitness for the all-important clash against Los Blancos.
