Robert Lewandowski has hit out at Bayern Munich’s bosses for the way they have treated him but hailed the backing of the supporters.
The 30-year-old Poland international striker’s agent Pini Zahavi confirmed that he wanted a fresh challenge at the end of last season when his 29 goals in 30 league games helped Bayern seal another Bundesliga crown.
Lewandowski, who won eight titles at the Allianz Arena, has broken his silence and intimated that his desire to leave also stemmed from the lack of backing he received from the likes of club president Uli Hoeness and chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge when he was widely criticised for failing to find the net in the two-legged Champions League ties against both Sevilla and Real Madrid respectively.
“In April, May, almost everyone took a shot at me,” he told German magazine Sport Bild.

“I felt no protection from the club and felt alone in the situation. I didn’t score in two or three important games andsuddenly it was ‘fire at will against Lewandowski’.”
The club have so far refused to sanction a sale and Lewandowski, who is under contract until summer 2021, claims the fans have given him the impetus to keep performing well this coming season.
“I’m back putting my heart into Bayern. I noticed here in Munich how the fans are behind me and I realised, they still want me,” he added.
