The House of Representatives Committee on Sports led by its chairman, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has urged the National Sports Commission (NSC) to make judicious use of the allocated when eventually approved by the National Assembly.
Honourable Amadu stated this during the 2025 budget defence by the National Sports Commission under its chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko on Tuesday in Room 467 of the National Assembly Complex.
He said the budget defence is in line with Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution to see that agencies perform their duties as mandated.
“We expect that sports will get to its pedestal under your leadership. We call for judicious use of the budget when finally passed. We see that the budgetary provision for sports has been increased from N24 billion to N94 billion, an increment of 29 per cent,” he said.
Dikko while briefing the Committee said the Commission is concerned in making sure that sports in the country is run by core professionals and which has been done through the unveiling of the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), a bold plan to transform the nation’s sports industry through the Reset, Refocus, and Relaunch (RRR) initiative, which aims to shift Nigeria’s sports ecosystem from a competition-driven model to a development-driven and value-adding industry.
