Manchester United forward Amad Diallo has been granted leave by the club following a family bereavement.
The Ivory Coast international will not feature in Saturday’s Premier League trip to Brentford. Head coach Ruben Amorim said football was “not important” at this moment.
Amad has played in all six of United’s matches this season, starting five, either in one of the number 10 roles or as a right wing-back.
“We are giving all the support to Amad,” Amorim said. “The next game is not important.”
The forward had recently faced criticism from some United supporters after being seen interacting with former teammate Alejandro Garnacho following United’s victory over Chelsea last weekend. Garnacho left Old Trafford in acrimonious circumstances earlier this year.
Amad later deleted posts from his Instagram and X accounts. Amorim responded by advising his players to avoid online distractions.
“I say the same thing to my players – shut down social media,” Amorim said. “It’s like that nowadays. It’s a price you have to pay. The important thing is that the club and his friends are real life for Amad. We are here for him. We can win without Amad, and we also want to win for him.”
Meanwhile, defender Noussair Mazraoui has been ruled out until mid-October after sustaining a minor injury in the win over Chelsea.
Summer signing Bryan Mbeumo is expected to face his former club, Brentford, returning to west London after his move to United.
A win would give Amorim consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since his appointment, with his reign now approaching a full season in charge.
“It’s normal the fans don’t know what is going to happen (in) the next game,” Amorim said. “To be honest, I have an idea, but I don’t know how it’s going to be and I’m the manager of the team. The best way of dealing with that is to approach every game like it’s the last one. I understand the feeling of the fans, so let’s start changing that feeling.”
