Jack Wilshere has revealed he needed a new lease on life in the Premier League after nearly losing his desire to play football.
The midfielder has revitalised his top-flight career with a season-long move to Bournemouth from Arsenal, where he has struggled for consistency ever since 2008.
Now having started the last three consecutive matches for the Cherries, the 24-year-old is once again enjoying the game with a fresh outlook.
“I missed the fight of the Premier League, being in big games and making a difference for a team,” said Wilshere.
“I wanted to feel that again and almost fall back in love with the game.”
Wilshere needed more time on the pitch than he was previously seeing at the Emirates, but hopes that a solid campaign with Bournemouth will see him return to Arsene Wenger’s future plans.
“At the moment I am just trying to have a season where it puts me in a good position at the end of the year, that I have improved as a player and Arsenal want me back,” added the Englishman.
“I could have stayed at Arsenal, been the player that comes on now and then off the bench, starts in the odd cup game, but I wanted more than that.”
