Morata, huge asset to Chelsea —Emenalo

As player joins team in Singapore

Technical director of Chelsea FC, Michael Emenalo says the importance of Alvaro Morata’s addition to the Blues’ squad ahead of the new Premier League season cannot be over-emphasised.

The Spain striker who flew into London on Thursday to have a medical and complete the formalities of a deal which could eventually cost Chelsea £70m was unveiled by the club on Friday.

Emenalo in an interview on the club’s official website said the arrival of Morata would in no small way strenghten the reigning EPL champions.

“We are delighted to complete Alvaro’s signing and welcome him to the club. We believe he can make a great impact for Chelsea and look forward to seeing him in action.

“Alvaro has proved class at the highest level and his quality will be a huge asset to Antonio and the squad,” said the former Nigerian international.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old forward on Saturday arrived in Singapore awaiting the arrival of his new team-mates who will fly in from China for a pre-season tourney.

Morata arrived in time to watch on television as Chelsea spanked Arsenal 3-0 in a friendly.

He will be introduced to his new team-mates when they arrive from China which is the first outing of pre-season for Antonio Conte’s side.

The former Real and Juventus star admits he cannot wait to get started after completing his drawn-out move to the Premier League.

“I am so happy to be here. It’s an incredible emotion to be part of this big club,” he said.

Morata is likely to make his debut for the Blues on Tuesday against Bayern Munich in the ongoing fifth International Champions Cup in China billed for the National Stadium, Singapore.
