As the 2025/2026 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season is set to kick off later this month, the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF) has urged the Nigeria Football Federation Players’ Status and Arbitration Committee (NFF-PSAC) to resolve over 100 outstanding contractual disputes involving players.
Former international and NANPF President, Sunday Abe, while expressing concern over the volume of cases and the potential impact on the integrity of the League, listed the unresolved cases to include illegal contract terminations, unpaid salaries, outstanding transfer fees and the withholding of players’ clearances, saying the issues directly threaten the welfare and careers of affected players.
Abe nonetheless appreciated the past efforts of the NFF-PSAC but urged the Committee to tackle the issues on ground before the commencement of the new season.
“More than 100 cases require immediate attention. If left unresolved, they could seriously derail the careers of many players. The league exists because of the players, and their rights must be protected.
“Addressing these disputes will not only restore confidence in the system but also promote fairness and professionalism across the league,” Abe said.
According to NANPF, timely resolutions would not only encourage greater transparency and accountability among clubs and league administrators but also foster trust within the football community.
The union reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding players’ rights and urges clubs to fulfil their contractual obligations at all levels of the Nigerian league system.
