NFF investigate alleged bribery claim against Salisu Yusuf

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have announced on Friday that they have begun preliminary investigations into an alleged case of bribery against Super Eagles coach, Salisu Yusuf.

“For now, the NFF has commenced preliminary investigation into the matter to assist the committee on ethics and fairplay,” NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire disclosed in a statement today.

The ethics committee is headed by former boss of anti-graft agency EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu.

Yusuf was seen on video receiving cash from investigative journalists posing as football agents who requested that two players to be selected for a major championship.

Yusuf, 56, who was assistant to Gernot Rohr at the recent World Cup in Russia, has denied any wrongdoing, saying the money he took was a gift and not a bribe to pick the players.

He further said players are picked by the team on merit and their consistency.

The country’s football coaches association have said they stand by Yusuf, who led Nigeria to the final of this year’s Championship of African Nations in Morocco.
